The “bow exercise”

The following is from   “Post No. 478 - Speculations: 'Input Orientation', Obama, and other stuff”   https://gnwmythr.blogspot.com/2013/10/speculations-input-orientation-obama.html   Sunday, 6th October 2013

...

So ... having made that speculation ... how does that, Dear Reader, apply to your own life? Where have you struck a balance between being able to exist in reasonable harmony at the price of your principles? I know where I'm juggling those pressures, and what my balance points currently are, and I frequently review them.

Which leads me to my next point, an exercise I came up with someone some time ago for someone who was coming to terms with the balance that one has to have between confidence and humility.

That exercise is based on the analogy of a bow - specifically, being the bow strong.

Now, when a bow is drawn, the strong is pulled back by the archer, and the resistance made by the connection to the bow bends the bow, and converts the archer's applied muscular effort into stored kinetic energy which, when the string is released by the archer, is transferred from the bow to the arrow - and the arrow flies.

At the point where the archers fingers meet the bow string, there are two opposing forces: one from the top of the bow, and one from the bottom (assuming the bow is in the more common position of vertical). If those forces weren't in balance (say, for instance, the archer is trying to draw the bow whole holding the string near one end of the bow, rather than the centre), it won't work, or won't work well - the arrow will either not take flight, or will be off target. If you try to draw a bow that has a broken string, it won't work at all.

So if we take the balance between confidence and humility:

  • too much confidence and not enough humility leads to arrogance and hubris - the pride that goeth before a fall;
  • not enough confidence and too much humility leads to being a doormat that others walk all over (a problem for me in much of my life, which will no doubt surprise some people who know me, but then I've worked consciously and fixing that balance) or even depression.
The exercise is to stand with your arms extended out horizontally from your shoulders, out sideways, and imagine that they are the string of the bow. Imagine that one represents confidence, and the other humility, and then begin to slowly bring your arms forward into a vee, as if your arms are the string of a horizontal bow being drawn by some archer. As you do so, allow yourself to feel the balance between the two forces, perhaps even in relation to a specific situation, and contemplate how too much of either can show up in that particular situation. If you've practiced enough to become proficient, you could possibly even allow one arm to move slightly ahead of the other as you do so.

The aim is to promote awareness and thinking that will help you be mindful, and thus effective at balancing competing influences or forces - not just confidence and humility, but other poles as well.

Remember: we generally need to be more human being rather than human doing, to mind our Mӕgan, and to acknowledge that all misgendering is an act of active transphobia/transmisia that puts trans+ lives at risk & accept that all insistence on the use of “trans” as a descriptor comes with commensurate use of “cis” as a descriptor to prevent “othering” (just as binary gendered [men’s and women’s] sporting teams are either both given the gender descriptor, or neither).

Some automatic writing

I was taught a range of forms of mediumship in the 1980s by a deeply flawed group.

One of those forms was automatic writing - or, to be more accurate, automatic typing.

I’ve posted a few examples of the classical form of that in various places, but, over time, I have insisted that my experience, knowledge, and skills be incorporated into such writing, and now everything I write is an inextricable combination of my experience, knowledge, and skills, and the experience, knowledge, and skills of whoever I am channelling - usually one or more of my BPM  Guides.

I have a practice of not naming them, which has been agreed to by - well, actually, I think they impressed me with the idea - my BPM  Guides.

Three of those Guides joined together, however, and conveyed a perspective on the topic of “Balanced Perspective” that I consider important, and thus am going to convey.

As my share of insisting my skills etc be included, they have left the wording (on many nonphysical  levels of Reality, communication does not use words) to me ... as the saying goes, hoist by my own petard 😂

Now the concept that they were conveying is that the issue of assessing balance is not an immediate or short term timeline.

The concept is assessed - particularly on higher frequency nonphysical levels - over a longer term, often multiple lifetimes.

Thus, it is a slower moving sense of balance, a little like the movement of a glacier before the climate crisis, which leaves room for making mistakes and learning from and correcting those mistakes.

Those guiding us do not “hysterically overreact instantly to every transgression of balance, no matter how minor, like an outraged drama queen” (yes, that is what they conveyed - and there are correcting this as we go, such as changing “probably multiple lifetimes” to “often multiple lifetimes”, and their admission of having impressed me with the not naming concept [which is to avoid the many traps of ego, including the possibility of mediums lying as a form of spiritual bypassing or fabrication of support for their biases and bigotries and preconceptions]). There is a measured, deliberate, as well informed as possible consideration - which, it needs to be noted, means the true depth and breadth of the impact of whatever we have done can be properly understood and considered (gulp).

But that also enables a comprehensive, collective, sustainable approach to rectifying those errors and their consequences.

This also means that off-the-cuff or rushed/hurried immediate response are likely themselves to fail to address imbalances, and, as they may cause or promote further states of being unbalanced, are also likely (not definitely guaranteed) to be unbalanced - or, in the parlance I use, nonBPM.

This is particularly significant for me, as I have the tendency to be too quick to react or respond, and need to get back into the habit - particularly now that I am retired - of ensuring I have spent and adequate time reflecting on matters before I act or react.

Definitely food for thought there.

The other source of information I have are my Matron/non-binary/Patron/Tutelary Deities.

One of those, Tyr, wishes to also convey some thoughts, so here goes ...

Community wellbeing was seemingly simpler a millennia ago - certainly it was simpler physically, but the complexity of Sentient thought, emotions, and reactions has been underplayed by almost every era, largely as a result of personal arrogance.

Notwithstanding that, communal wellbeing has always had a surprising degree of complexity, and gains in knowledge - including the ability to name certain aspects - has opened the door to potentially improving the wellbeing of communities - on all scales of existence.

Agriculture enabled the family based groupings we now describe as tribes to have an increased level of security - but that also led to abuses and problems. Over time, larger groupings of humans created other problems as they created Empires, but the creation of improved communication and transport also meant the potential was there for, as an example, one area of the Empire to provide its surplus food for another that had famine.

Thus the concept of balance could be applied across larger geographies, and across the layers of societies that were being expanded or made more complex.

Where those balances were for the overall, on a person-for-person basis, benefit, it was a balanced positive - and that included the above example of excess food in one area being use to benefit a famine elsewhere.

It also meant those with a skill or expertise that could be developed and refined as a result of having excess food and thus security of survival, could be used for the benefit of others who had differing areas of skills, competencies, abilities, or other resources - which is a balanced positive of human potentials.

In many cases, however, that balance of human potentials could be adversely impacted by the greedy and power-hungry: billionaires have always been a problem with Sentient life, but they were apparent in differing ways - and that is the lack of balance or anti-balance being seen in exacerbated extremes of late in the physical world of planet Earth.

It has, however, been with us for longer - for instance, as empire building (in various forms) over the last few millennia.

It has not been managed, let alone eradicated, for a number of reasons, including the inability to recognise it, which is often incumbent on the ability to name a thing that is being seen.

Achieving a balanced positive thus also requires awareness, and the ability to communicate.

There are also many personal character flaws to be overcome, but that is a topic for another arena.

For now, I wish to emphasise that the concept of balanced positive also applies to the communal realm - but from the perspective where every Sentient Being has equal value with another.

No billionaires.

Hmm - that was interesting. I was wondering where it was going for a while, but it makes good sense to me - and is something I will reflect on.

And I will leave this post at that.
